Elopement/Destination Weddings

Eloping is considered to being a last minute decision to get married. More colloquially, elopement is often used to refer to a marriage conducted in sudden and secretive fashion, usually involving a hurried flight away from one’s place of residence together with one’s beloved with the intention of getting married.
Today the term “elopement” is colloquially used for any marriage performed quietly in the privacy of their own home, with or without family presence. These ceremonies may take place at a local park, back yard, living room, favourite restaurant, on top of a mountain or beside a riverbank or Marriage Commissioner’s home with a limited public engagement period or without a public engagement period.

Destination Ceremony is so SMART to do! Couples take care of all of their legal documentation (typically before departure) before their BIG wedding day. Whether it be down south in the sun, England, Europe, India, China, Japan or even Russia. Couples would be legally married in Alberta reducing substantial legal documentation and wait-time costs, time, stress and ensuring Marriage is in fact legal (i.e. in some countries couples must ensure they stay in the country for a certain period of time before and after the wedding day).

The BIG Wedding Day would then be either a renewal of vows ceremony or blessing in the church. And of course – this would be your celebrated Anniversary.

Pat opens her home for Elopement Ceremonies. Couples may choose to have their ceremony in her beautiful professionally landscaped backyard – complete with Arbour and water feature, in front of the spiral staircase or fireplace in her home.
